Hargeisa Children’s Home

Clinic Fund Information

and Request for Funding

HOPE worldwide began working at the Hargeisa Children’s Home in May 2000. At the Children’s Home HOPE worldwide provided a Health Care Practitioner and worked to establish a Primary and Acute Care Clinic. HOPE worldwide’s efforts went towards improving the overall general health of the children, providing health care for moderate to severe illness in the children, and to the on-going training of the Health Worker at the Clinic.

The Health Worker has now been trained and is doing a fine job of managing the clinic and providing health care for the children, obtaining advice and care from local physicians when necessary. Over 1000 visits are made to the Clinic by children from the Home every quarter for various illnesses. These illnesses range from colds, fungal and wound infections, and scabies, to more severe respiratory conditions. Sometimes they just need a hug or a hello.

In collaboration with the Institute For Practical Research and Training, HOPE worldwide opened a Children’s Home Clinic Account at Dahabshiil – Hargeisa in September 2001. This was in an effort to provide a small stipend for the Health Worker and medication and supplies for the children. Without this account, the Clinic will not have funds to provide a stipend for the Health Worker, or medications, outside medical consultations and supplies for the children.

Any donations to this account from the local or international Somali Community or otherwise will be greatly appreciated. The Clinic is able to function very well in meeting the medical needs of the Orphanage community on several thousand US dollars.

Much work has gone into training the Health Worker to manage this Clinic and care for the children. Records and statistics are kept on a monthly basis. Donors are always welcome to come by the Clinic to speak with the Health Worker, Director, and/or visit with the children, and to review records and statistics. All expenses are itemized and records kept of expenditures.

Anyone wishing to contribute to this account can do so directly through DahabShiil, Hargeisa. Contributions can be made to Account number D1480. The name of this account is HOPE worldwide/IPRT Orphanage Clinic Project. Information regarding this account, the conditions at the Orphange, programs and needs can be obtained from Ahmed Esa of IPRT in Hargeisa. His e-mail is ahesa@rocketmail.com and phone number in Hargeisa is 252-213-6990.

Thank you for your interest and your support in helping to assure the general health and well being of these children, the children that are part of the future of Somaliland.

NB: After two very successful years, HOPE WORLDWIDE left Somaliland in June 2002.  With Hope's departure, IPRT agreed to takeover the clinic and maintain it.  In early 2003, IPRT expanded the clinic to include an expanded ward and a full spectrum laboratory to make it virtually self sufficient.  We have also hired a full-time doctor and a laboratory technician.

The Institute expresses its gratitude to the following friends who continue to support the clinic or who have recently made donation pledges:

Abdi Ali Jama (Botswana), Dr. Osman Ahmed (USA), Dr. Jama Elmi (Norway), Dr. Jama Muse Jama (Italy), Abdillahi Hussein (UK), Roland Marchal (France), Nuri Jirdeh Hussein (Dubai), Qania Adan (USA), Ismail Jama (Saudi Arabia), Hassan Ali Mohamed (Saudi Arabia) and Malinda Wheeler and the Hope Team.

Please remember to send your donations as soon as possible to the Dahabshiil account stated above or to IPRT's accounts in the USA or Djibouti (Click here for these accounts).
