Thank You for Your Assistance.
NOTE:
Several years ago, I started to create
an English-Somali dictionary, primarily for my children who were born
outside of the Somali speaking region.
I made a valiant effort and compiled almost a hundred pages of the
dictionary, but sadly the project gave way to other more front burner
endeavors.
My children and thousands of other children born to
Somalis in the Diaspora still need a useful and easily accessible
dictionary and I am proposing to my Somali colleagues in the Diaspora to
join forces with us and using the power of the Internet embark on a
collective project to create the first comprehensive online Somali-English and
later Somali-French Dictionaries.
The idea is as follows:
1)
We will post here an embryonic Somali-English Dictionary.
2)
You can browse this dictionary (download it if you wish) and then
submit to us any word that you think should be added with as comprehensive
definition in Somali of the meaning of the word with examples of usage.
3)
We will consider all
submissions. If the same word
is submitted by more than one person, we will use the definition that we
think is more appropriate or more comprehensive.
4)
We will edit all submissions for format and then add to the growing
dictionary.
5)
You can contribute as many words as you want.
6)
We reserve the right to edit and to reject words and definitions
that we deem inappropriate.
This is a voluntary project and open to all.
Once completed the dictionary will be available on-line for all to
use. IPRT is a non-profit
organization and will not derive any financial gain from the finished
project. The Institute may,
if there is a need at the end, charge a nominal one-time and life-time fee
for accessing the dictionary to cover its maintenance and hosting costs.
The project will start on January 1, 2004.
Please use submissions forms that you will find below and follow
the examples provided.
